My mission as Sheriff
Sir Robert Peel, who founded the London Metropolitan Police Force in 1829, is often called “the father of modern-day policing.” He established nine principles and three core ideas, all of which center on a single truth: a law enforcement agency cannot succeed without the trust of the community it serves. Over the past decade, we have witnessed a troubling erosion of public confidence in law enforcement. My mission as Sheriff of Albany County is to restore that trust.
How? It starts with real experience and proven leadership. Throughout my career, I have investigated dozens of murders, have supervised patrol teams, special enforcement teams, SWAT teams, and various detective units. I was a full-time Public Information Officer in one of the world’s largest media markets. As a Major Incident Review Team sergeant, I have also investigated numerous police use of force cases, including Officer Involved Shootings. These investigations looked at the policy and training issues involved in the incidents and made recommendations for improvement. Through this, I worked closely with the Office of Independent Review, as well as Orange County’s first civilian Police Review Board.
I will be accessible to the public, and so will every member of the Sheriff’s Office from the top down. We are public servants, and we will conduct ourselves as such.
I will implement policies and procedures that guide our personnel in their duties. I will ensure our hiring process is rigorous, transparent, and focused on selecting only the most qualified candidates. I will also prioritize modern, ongoing training based on industry best practices, and I will foster a culture of innovation and professional growth.

Fiscal responsibility
With looming budget cuts, now more than ever, it is vitally important that every dollar is spent responsibly. ACSO recently entered into a contract for medical services in the Detention Center that is twice the cost per inmate than what is being paid by neighboring counties.
A safe and secure detention center
The Albany County Detention Center’s death rate over the past five years is 300% higher than the national average for jails housing 100 inmates or less. Of the 16 custodial deaths that occurred across Wyoming’s 23 jails in the past six years, five of them were in the Albany County Detention Center. This is UNACCEPTABLE!
Alternative response to mental health crises
Daron is committed to real reform when responding to those experiencing mental health crises, instead of just lip service.
Recruiting and retaining the most qualified personnel
I will hire the most qualified personnel, regardless of race, gender, etc. Hiring the most qualified candidates according to skills, experience, and merit ensures a competent workforce.
